Maasai Walking Safari including Serengeti (14 days) Day 0: Place: Kilimanjaro airport – Arusha town.Arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, on your arrival, meeting point outside the building at arrivals, our Maasai friends and travel guides from us will pick you up from the airport and drive you to Arusha, where you will stay one night in the guest house, (Fb). Day 1: Place: Arusha town – Ketumbeine Village.The next morning you drive about 2.5 hours to the first camp in Ketumbeine. In Ketumbeine you visit Maasai women and their pearl jewelry project “Naapok”. The next day the 5-day hike to Lake Natron at the foot of Ol doinyo Lengai volcano in the East African Rift Valley starts from here. During the hike, a Maasai team will accompany you to cook and look after you. Your main luggage will be transported from camp to camp by car. So all you have to do is carry your day pack, (Fb). Day 2: Place: Ketumbeine Village – Bush Camp.The first day of hiking is not very flat first it goes up and downhill before the savannah land along paths and a little cross-country through untouched Maasai steppes. On all hiking days you start very early and experience how nature awakens. You will encounter many birds and also some wild animals such as zebras, antelopes or giraffes. You stay in the middle of the wilderness at Bush camp, (Walking: approx. 6-7 hours, 15 km), (Fb). Day 3: Place: Bush Camp – Gilai Village.Today the hike begins with the bushes as per origin of the camp, first it goes downhill then it goes through the steppes and you will see the volcano Ol donyo Lengai for the first time. “Mountain of God” in the Maasai language is an active volcano located in the Gregory Rift, South of Lake Natron it uniquely produces natrocarbonatite lava, Ol doinyoLengai is the destination of the hiking tour. At the end of the hiking day it goes a little uphill to Gilay Village, where the camp is set up on the property of a former mission, (Walking: approx. 7-8 hours, 20 km, (Fb). Day 4: Place: Gilai Bomba – Gilai Mirugoi.Today the route goes over mountain Gilai, so over “stick and stone”. That is also a day that is going to be a little more exhausting. First it goes up and downhill again and again, then over a beautiful plateau towards the Ol doinyo Langai volcano. On the way you will surely meet one or the other Maasai family who will be curious to welcome you. The camp is downhill near Makat Village, today you spend a night at Savannah camp, (Walking: approx. 6-7 hours, 19 km, (Fb). Day 5: Place: Gilai Mirugoi – Magadini Village.Today the path then leads along the Lake. The lakeshore has solid ground and home to many thousands of birds, including Flamingos and Pelicans. The hike doesn’t take that long this day and the camp next to Naikurukur has the luxury of “hot springs pools”. These are natural pools with warm thermal water for bathing, right on Lake Natron with the view of the volcano. The camp is set up right next to it, (Walking: approx. 4 hours, 10 km, (Fb). Day 6: Place: Magadini Village – Engare Sero Lake Natron.The last day of hiking then leads you along Lake Natron partly through the inflow basin and wading through the waters of Lake Natron, to Engare Sero. Lake Natron is a mineral-rich soda Lake in northern Tanzania, at the border with Kenya. It’s a breeding ground for hundreds of thousands of lesser Flamingos, despite the highly alkaline state of the striking red waters. It sits below Ol doinyo Lengai, a soaring active volcano in the Rift Valley. Trails lead from the Lake to the Engare Sero waterfalls, which flow over craggy rocks into a natural pool. On the way there, you will be picked up by the Jeeps and taken to the well-equipped Lengai Lodge & Camp. Showers, warm water and cool drinks are waiting for you. After arrival, there is usually the possibility of a short afternoon hike to the nearby waterfall. A via ferrata accompanied by a local Maasai Guide, leads to cool refreshment and a beautiful nature experience, in the evening you drive to Lakeshore, (Walking: approx. 3 hours, 5 km, (Fb). Day 7: Place: Lake Natron-Northern Serengeti Lobo.Activities: Today we drive from Lake Natron to Lobo, passing some varied landscape, from dry rocks to lush plains, along the way. Lake Natron is one of the most original landscapes in East Africa. It is a wide soda lake that is home to the Maasai, First it goes up into the Ngorongoro highlands to Wasso, where you visit the Maasai village from guide Emmanuel while on the way to Serengeti National Park. And for a night stay at lobo camp (Fb) Day 8: Place: North and center –Serengeti.Today we will have game drive around center Serengeti gate to Serengeti this is a day of exploring the amazing array of wildlife around Serengeti, which is the ideal location for marvelling at the annual migration of large herds of animals at this time of the year.
